Bob Siemer is a 2nd generation farmer at Del Rey Avocado, a family owned and operated farm that has been satisfying guacamole cravings across the country since 1969. Thanks to its ideal location near the San Luis Rey River in San Diego County, the farm receives an ample amount of warm California sunshine and cool ocean breezes. As a result, their avocados are kept from maturing too quickly. In fact, they sit on the tree for up to 16 months before their flesh turns pale green and skin turns from green to purplish-black. That, Avocado Bob explained to us, is when you know the avocado has produced the most amount of healthy oils. In other words, harvest time.
