Classic Box Menu 7/22 to 7/28

Between France’s bistro fare and Italy’s trattoria eats, it’s hard to say which country has the supreme cuisine. In fact, we love both so much that we’re tempted to make a hybrid out of the two and call it Fritalian. So say hello to our border-hopping recipe, which features both chicken seasoned with herbs de Provence (southern France’s trademark seasoning) and a farro caprese that is loaded with classic Italian ingredients, like tomatoes, mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar.

Spaghetti with tomato sauce is always a recipe for success. Is there anyone who’d turn down a plate of noodles piled high and dusted with cheese? Surely not, although adding some extra meat and veg certainly makes it all the more crave-able. Which is exactly what we’re doing in this version: taking a tried-and-true Italian American classic and filling it out with hearty ground beef and bites of tender zucchini.

This week’s inductee into the HelloFresh Recipe Hall of Fame features a sauce built around soy, hoisin, and honey that our home cooks just can’t seem to get enough of. Its rich, complex flavor tastes like it was made by a black-belt chef, yet it’s so simple that even a novice can whip it up. You’ll adding it to a pork and asparagus stir-fry that comes together with just a few tosses in the pan.

Udon noodles lend themselves naturally to stir-frys. Because they’re thick and chewy, they do a great job of soaking up the sauce (here, that’s a mix of hoisin and soy). All that’s needed to make a recipe like this complete is a mix of veggies and a hearty protein: we’re providing you with crisp green beans, crunchy carrot, and perfectly plump shrimp.

These chicken tenders feature a secret but tasty trick: the meat is brushed with barbecue sauce, which not only helps the outer layer of crispy breadcrumbs adhere, but also creates a layer of smoky sweetness. That flavor gets amplified even further with summery sugar snap peas; roasty, toasty sweet potatoes; and a barbecue Dijon dipping sauce on the side.

Polenta and steak may not be a pairing you see every day, but when you taste it, you’ll start to wonder where it’s been all your life. The cornmeal porridge soaks up the drippings from the beef, becoming a swirl of intensely rich and meaty flavors. To balance out all that decadence, we’re introducing green beans and tomatoes, cooked until they burst with tangy juices, plus a balsamic reduction that provides a jolt of fruit-forward acidity.

Bagels may be New York City’s best-known breakfast food, but if you walk down Broadway on any given morning, you’ll see its denizens emerging from corner delis clutching brown paper bags with hearty bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches tucked inside. Our tribute to this other morning favorite from the home of HelloFresh US headquarters features a few upgrades: a feisty chipotle ketchup, an fluffy brioche bun, and salad greens in a lemony dressing.

Scallopini get their name from the Italian word for “scallops,” or a thinly sliced piece of meat. Here, we’ll show you how to transform chicken breasts into those slim and slender cutlets, just the way they do at many a trattoria. The scallopini are then dusted in flour to give them a crispy brown coating and smothered in a creamy mushroom sauce that truly tastes like amore at first bite.
