The only thing better than a really great sandwich is one that takes just minutes to prepare! All you have to do is quickly assemble and dig right into this Really Great Sandwich, which features sweet fig jam, savory-salty prosciutto, and mild, nutty gouda packed into a crusty ciabatta bun. Juicy tomato and peppery arugula provide a fresh complement. If you’re working from home, put it together just before lunch; or whip it up in the morning before heading to the office. When your stomach starts to rumble, you’ll be gazing at that brown bag with heart eyes.

Produced in a facility that processes eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

Cooking Steps

1

• Halve ciabattas; toast until golden.

2

• Meanwhile, wash and dry produce. Slice tomato into ¼-inch rounds. Tear or slice prosciutto crosswise into bite-size pieces.

3

• In a medium bowl, toss arugula with a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and pepper.

4

• Spread mayonnaise onto cut sides of bottom ciabatta halves. Spread jam onto cut sides of top ciabatta halves; sprinkle with as many chili flakes as you like. Layer bottom ciabatta halves with as much dressed arugula as you like. Top with prosciutto, gouda, and tomato. Close sandwiches.

5

• Halve sandwiches on a diagonal; divide between plates and serve with any remaining arugula on the side.

Review summary

Updated on Apr 2026
  • Flavor: The fig jam and chili flakes create a perfect sweet-and-salty combination that many found surprisingly delicious.
  • Ease of prep: Super quick and easy to assemble with no cooking required — perfect for busy lunch breaks.
  • Suggestions: Toast the ciabatta well or lightly sauté the prosciutto until crispy to improve texture and prevent chewiness.
  • Portions: Many felt there wasn't enough prosciutto, fig jam, or gouda relative to the thick bread; consider adding extra protein.
  • Bread: The ciabatta can be overwhelmingly thick and hard; some preferred switching to thinner bread or pita for better balance.

We LOVED these simple sandwiches. I lightly sauteed the prosciutto until almost crispy and that made for a great addition to the sandwich. Would order every time if these were on every week's menu!

This was sooo good. The combo of fig and just a little red pepper flacks was spot on. I'll get for lunch again.

Delicious sandwiches! The only thing I would change is that I would like more fig jam because it's so good. This is a favorite now!

Easy to make on the days you don't have time to cook.

I did not like the bread very much so I ate half the first sandwich and all of the second sandwich without the bread but overall, very good flavors and combinations. Fun having the prosciutto because I don't get to have that very often. Also, I really like fig and you never see that out and about.

More prosciutto, maybe 3 Oz instead of 2, less arugula (I now have too much leftover), maybe 1 Oz instead of 2. Flavors all really worked together and I never thought about putting jam on a sandwich, proportions just need a little adjusting

Somewhere between 3 and four stars, very good option. I always love the arugula and/or tomato sandwiches that are quick and easy even though prosciutto isn't my favorite. The bread is way too hard though sometimes, this specific bread I tend to avoid in your recipes cause it's just too strange and fake of a texture

The fig jam was a bit too sweet and it was a very strong flavor. Felt the fig jam overpowered the flavor of the Gouda and the prosciutto.

It was good but the flavors didn't pop like the mozzarella sandwiches did. I think the gouda cheese just wasn't strong enough flavor to go with the prosciutto and just couldn't taste it on the sandwich.

This was easy to make. However, the prosciutto gets kind of lost in the sandwich. There is only two slices per sandwich and it seems like it could have been more. The flavors were good otherwise. We skipped the mayo and use olive oil since we are trying to avoid soybean oil.
