Cooking Steps

Start Prep
1

• Adjust rack to middle position (top and middle positions for 4 servings) and preheat oven to low broil. Wash and dry produce. • Halve, peel, and thinly slice onion.

Caramelize Onion
2

• Heat a large drizzle of oil in a medium, preferably nonstick, pan over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and softened, 3-5 minutes. • Add 1 tsp sugar (2 tsp for 4 servings) and a splash of water; cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, 2-3 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper. TIP: If you added any other items to your meal (apps, sides, and/or desserts), you can get started on them now!

Finish Prep & Mix Sauce
3

• Meanwhile, trim, peel, and cut carrots into sticks (like fries; ours were 3 inches long and 1/3 inch thick). Core, deseed, and dice half the green pepper into 1⁄4-inch pieces; cut remaining green pepper into 1⁄4-inch strips. • In a medium bowl, combine marinara and half the garlic powder (reserve remaining garlic powder for serving). Taste and season with salt and pepper.

Build Bar & Pitzas
4

• Place pitas on a lightly oiled baking sheet (divide between two baking sheets for 4 servings). Evenly spread sauce over pitas. • Place mozzarella, diced green pepper, caramelized onion, and pepperoni in separate serving vessels. Arrange sauce- topped pitas and toppings family style for everyone to build their own pitzas. (You’ll broil the pitzas in the next step!)

Cook Pitzas
5

• Broil pitzas on middle rack until cheese melts and edges are golden brown, 4-5 minutes. (For 4 servings, broil pitzas on top and middle racks, swapping rack positions halfway through.) Transfer to a cutting board.

Finish & Serve
6

• When cool enough to handle, cut pitzas into wedges. Divide between plates. • Place green pepper strips, chili flakes, and remaining garlic powder in separate serving bowls. Serve alongside pitzas, with carrots and ranch dressing on the side for dipping.

Review summary

Updated on Feb 2026
  • Flavor: Many loved the caramelized onions, which added a delicious depth of flavor to the pitzas 🍕.
  • Ease of prep: Quick, easy, and fun for the whole family to customize their own pizzas; kids especially enjoyed helping out.
  • Suggestions: Consider adding more cheese and a wider variety of toppings like mushrooms, olives, or pineapple for extra customization.
  • Portions: Some found there wasn't enough cheese provided for all the pitas; consider adding extra mozzarella.
  • Crust: While many enjoyed the pita base, some suggested trying naan bread or traditional pizza dough for a different texture.
  • Cooking: For crispier results, try cooking in an air fryer for 3-4 minutes or baking longer at a higher temperature.

Sooo easy, so lovely. Actually freaking delicious. Cooked each pizza in my air fryer for 3-4 minutes. Added hot honey to mine. Loved the added veggies to snack on with ranch. Everyone knows that ranch needs to accompany a pizza. Very kid friendly. They (3&5) love making their own pizzas!

Love the caramelized onion, for those who love onions. Great family meal, kids 2 and 6 ate 2-3 slices each!

The bread provided was the right thickness and size. Would love to get some oregano and spicy tomato sauce to kick it up a notch.

The family had fun putting these together. We added canned pineapple and my 5-year-old said it was the best pizza he had ever had!

Pizzas were good. I wish more toppings were included. I bought green peppers, mushrooms, and chicken to add. The peppers included were too spicy & we could've used 1/2 the pepperoni.

I was surprised that this was such a taste star. I was expecting my usual individual pizza but this was definitely a flavor above.

Instead carrots on the side I could definitely see having mushrooms on side as added topping but overall delicious!
