Cooking Oil
Spread sourdough with garlic herb butter; place on a clean work surface, buttered sides up. Evenly top half the slices with 3-4 slices of cheddar. Top with remaining bread, buttered sides down.
Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add sandwiches and cook until bread is golden and cheese melts, 2-3 minutes per side. (Work in batches if necessary.)
Cut in half on a diagonal.
RECOMMENDED: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Place bag of soup in pot; cook for 20 minutes, then carefully remove. (Caution: Bag will be very hot.) Cut one corner with scissors and pour into a serving bowl.
** MICROWAVE ALTERNATIVE:** Cut one corner of the bag; pour soup into a microwave-safe container. (Do not microwave in cup.) Cover loosely with microwave-safe plastic wrap or a paper towel. Microwave on high, stirring halfway through, 5-6 minutes. (Caution: Container and soup will be very hot.)
This was GREAT and a good buy for the money. We split the soup between two of us and you had a large soup cup full. They give you 8 large pieces of crusty sour dough bread with SARGENTO cheddar cheese. It made 4 large sandwiches that will feed 4 people but you won't want to share with two other people. We did cook the first two by their recipe and the second two our way and both were great. I enjoy Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup, but I do not like Campbell T soup because it is too sweet. The soup is slightly sweet at the first bite and it has less cream that a normal Tomato Basel soup. BUT this recipe is so balanced that by the end of the meal we were scraping the cup to get every bit of the soup. IT IS A GREAT BUY even at full price. We will be getting this again.
Garlicky buttery crisp sourdough with melting cheddar cheese dunked in creamy tomato basil soup. What's not to love? Generous portions and a budget friendly quick weeknight dinner. 10/10.
That tomato soup was so good, and the grilled cheeses with garlicky butter were great. Soup was creamy, a bit sweet, not too overly tomato-y. Took me a while to find a similar recipe online.
So good! One of my favorites. The soup was nice and creamy, like homemade soup. The grilled cheese was delicious too, loved the sharp cheddar and herb garlic butter. Easy to make too.
Perfect on a cold day- nice size bread slices and plenty of cheddar slices- garlic butter takes it up a notch. The tomato soup is creamy and sweet- good to the last drop.
So quick and easy, but sooo yummy. The soup was smooth and creamy without being heavy and the garlic and herb butter for the grilled cheese brought them up another level.
Loved the Creamy tomato soup. Did not like the sour dough bread and the Cheddar cheese. The cheddar cheese and the sour dough bread were too strong tasting. We want a milder taste for the grilled cheese sandwich. Maybe a whole wheat bread and American Cheese?
The sourdough bread is perfect for grilling-firm and good tasting. The sharp cheddar is a great complement to the bread and creamy soup. I don't care for the garlic butter on the grilled sandwich but will save it for veggies or something else.
The tomato basil soup is delicious! The herb butter makes the grilled cheese stand-out but perhaps offer two options for the type of cheese. The Sergento Cheddar is quite sharp.
These grilled cheese sandwiches are so tasty and the soup is very good. However, it's definitely not 4 servings of soup, more like 2 servings of soup.
