There’s nothing more comforting than a warm, hearty bowl of soup—especially when that bowl is actually warm, crusty sourdough bread! Not just any soup will do, though—this rich and creamy broccoli cheddar soup happens to be extra special. It’s made with a base of flavorful chicken broth and sweet light cream, and it’s chock-full of broccoli, cheddar cheese, and spices. We wouldn’t leave you hanging without something to dunk into your soup, either: Save the bread you scoop out of the bowl for dipping! The best part? All you have to do is heat it up and dig right in! One slurp will have you bowled over. Nutrition values are representative of a 1/2 bundle serving

Cooking Steps

1

Keep frozen or refrigerated until ready to eat.

2

RECOMMENDED: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Place bag in pot; cook for 20 minutes, then carefully remove. (Caution: Bag will be very hot.) Cut one corner with scissors before serving.

3

ALTERNATIVELY: Cut one corner of the bag; pour chili into a microwave-safe container. (Do not microwave in cup.) Cover loosely with microwave-safe plastic wrap or a paper towel. Microwave on high, stirring halfway through, 5-6 minutes. (Caution: Container and soup will be very hot.)

4

BREAD BOWL: Adjust rack to middle position and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut a 2-4-inch circle into the top of the loaf and remove. Scoop out the inside of the bread to create a bowl. Brush inside of bread bowl with 1 TBSP olive oil or melted butter; bake on middle rack until lightly toasted and warmed through, 7-8 minutes.

Updated on Dec 2025
  • Flavor: Many loved the creamy, cheesy soup; some found it a bit bland and added extra seasoning or cheese for more flavor.
  • Ease of prep: Quick and simple to prepare, though some struggled with shaping or toasting the bread bowls properly.
  • Suggestions: Consider brushing bread bowls with garlic butter before toasting; top soup with extra cheese or green onions.
  • Portions: Generous servings; some felt there was too much bread compared to soup quantity.
  • Texture: Several enjoyed the broccoli chunks, but a few wanted larger pieces or found the soup too thick.

Hands down the best broccoli cheese soup I have ever had in my life. It was so good that I was upset I had to share it. Never had a bread bowl either. That even took it to the next level!! Would buy again for sure.

This broccoli cheddar soup is very good. We don't typically put it in the bread bowls, but we love the bread bowls! We just eat the bread with the soup. Sometimes we have a loaf leftover to eat with another meal! It's a fantastic and easy "comfort" dinner.

This was a delightful surprise! The soup was delicious with the right balance of florets to broth. The bread could've been a more sour sourdough but I'm impressed with how it held up through the tearing out the middle and pouring in the soup. I got the 2 servings portion but split it between myself, my husband, and my two younger children for a satisfying lunch. Thanks!

My 11 year old son and I loved the broccoli and cheddar soup in a bread bowl! Not only was it filling, but it was delicious. The bread was also very good.

I liked the idea to brush the bowls with butter to heat it up, and the bread was good with the soup but not good enough to eat on its own. Boiling the bag worked better than I thought it would and was able to pour it out hot without burning hands, so that was great. I'll probably order the soup again separate from the bread bowls.

One of the best soups to enjoy in a bread bowl. What a way to enjoy the bowl when the soup is gone.

Delicious. I made croutons from the inside of the bread bowl and topped with green onions and shredded cheddar.

The sourdough bread was delicious, however, the Broccoli Cheddar Soup had a lot to be desired. Bland and needs broccoli stalks in it.

Very good! Liked that there were larger pieces of broccoli head in the soup.
