This Cuban-style spin on an American classic features boldly-spiced, sizzled patties enhanced with a hint of tangy lime. They're tucked into mayo-ketchup-slathered toasted buns along with tomato and crispy fried onions. You'll serve it with oven-roasted sweet potato wedges tossed with lime zest, plus a creamy, tangy slaw for crunchy contrast.

Adjust rack to top position and preheat oven to 450 degrees. Wash and dry produce.
Cut sweet potatoes into ½-inch-thick wedges. Toss on a baking sheet with a large drizzle of oil, half the Fry Seasoning (you’ll use the rest in Step 4), salt, and pepper.
Roast on top rack until tender and lightly crisped, 20-22 minutes (you'll finish the sweet potatoes in Step 5).

Meanwhile, trim and thinly slice scallions, separating whites from greens. Zest and quarter lime. Thinly slice tomato into rounds.

In a small bowl, combine ketchup and half the mayonnaise. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine coleslaw mix, scallion greens, remaining mayonnaise, juice from half the lime, a pinch of sugar, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine beef*, scallion whites, garlic powder, half the cumin, half the oregano, remaining Fry Seasoning, and juice from one lime wedge (all the cumin, all the oregano, and juice from two lime wedges for 4 servings). Form into two patties (four patties for 4), each slightly wider than a burger bun.
Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook to desired doneness, 3-5 minutes per side.
While patties cook, halve and toast buns.

Once sweet potatoes are done, remove sheet from oven and carefully toss with as much lime zest as you like. Taste and season with salt.

Spread bottom buns with a thin layer of mayo-ketchup sauce. Fill buns with patties, tomato, and as many crispy fried onions as you like.
Divide burgers, slaw, and zesty sweet potatoes between plates. Serve with remaining mayo-ketchup sauce on the side for dipping.
This was a great recipe. The spices and addition of lime juice to hamburger meat really made this a great tasting burger. I also really enjoyed the addition of the lime zest for the sweet potato fries. A very enjoyable meal!
Great mix on a burger - ended up putting all the seasoning in the burger meat for 2 people. Added extra sweet potatoes we had cause the two we got wasn't enough. Mixed some sriracha in the ketchup and mayo. Also wished I could have made the slaw vs a pre-mixed bag.
I would like to suggest outdoor grill cooking alternate during hot summer season. I cooked the sweet potato sticks and hamburger on the grill. It was wonderful without heating the oven to 425 or heating a fry pan. I wish you had hot weather options.
We were surprised to like the slaw and the lime in the burger meat really shined.
My husband wants this meal at least once per month. He is super hard to please but really liked this burger.
3 very good meals. I pan roasted the Sweet Potatoes & smashed Ground Beef into bit sized pieces, cooked for a few minutes, wiped out pan & then added seasoning 'stuff' to finish cooking.
Delicious and delightful. My sweet potatoes were tiny and I only got a few fries out of them but I very highly enjoyed the coleslaw.
We loved these burgers something a little different, the coleslaw is amazing.
Spices in the burger were too intense. And I like spice, so for me to say this then it was too much. Specifically, the cumin was all I could taste. The burger was just meh. Now the sweet potato fries were AMAZING! The slaw was good but could probably have stood a pinch of sugar to balance the acidic notes. The fried onions were impossible to keep on the burger without an anchor like cheese. I wouldn't order this again.
Not a true Cuban Frita. Needs to be topped with shoestring fries instead of french fried onions. Beef needs to be mixed with ketchup, chopped onion, grated garlic, cumin and smoked paprika.
