One day, Sweet and Spicy Chicken was feeling extra-saucy (a dose of hoisin and gochujang will do that) and went shopping. “Ooh, check me out!,” it said, “this lettuce wrap is so cool and fresh!” And like any outfit, no wrap is complete without accessories. Crown this whole 15-minute ensemble with crunchy, citrusy sesame cabbage slaw, a sprinkle of scallion greens, and a shower of crackly, nutty sesame seeds. After all, good taste (and a lightning-quick dinner) is always in style!

Produced in a facility that processes eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

Cooking Steps

Prep
1

• Wash and dry produce. • Trim and thinly slice scallions, separating whites from greens. Halve lime. Trim root end from lettuce; separate leaves.

Start Chicken
2

• Pat chicken* dry with paper towels and season all over with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. TIP: Halve any larger pieces of chicken if necessary. • Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken in a single layer; cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, 4-6 minutes. • In the last 30 seconds of cooking, add scallion whites; stir to combine.

Start Slaw
3

• In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine cabbage and carrot mix, 1 tsp sugar (2 tsp for 4 servings), and juice from lime. Season with salt and pepper. Microwave until cabbage is slightly softened, 30-60 seconds. (You’ll finish the slaw in Step 5.)

Finish Chicken
4

• Reduce heat under pan with chicken to medium low. Stir in hoisin, gochujang, and ¼ cup water (1/3 cup for 4 servings). Cook, stirring frequently, until sauce has thickened and chicken is coated, 1-2 minutes more.

Finish Slaw
5

• Add sesame dressing and half the sesame seeds (save the rest for serving) to bowl with cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss to combine.

Serve
6

• Divide lettuce leaves between plates; fill with sesame slaw. Top with chicken and any remaining sauce from pan. Garnish with scallion greens and remaining sesame seeds. Drizzle with hot sauce to taste. Serve.

Chicken is fully cooked when internal temperature reaches 165°.

  • Freshness: While many enjoyed the crisp lettuce, a few noted issues with wilted greens or browning cabbage.

I love the flavor of these Sweet and Spicy Lettuce Wraps. It made enough for several tacos per person and had a couple for leftovers the next day. My daughter made it and said it was super easy. We served it with rice and it was a hit.

This was my first time trying this recipe and when to add the scallion whites was somewhat hidden in the instructions. The flavors were tasty and loved the simplicity, however, most of the lettuce leaves were too small for wraps, so I just chopped them up and placed the filling on top, more like a taco salad.

This was so good! I would say portion wise is about 3 lettuce wraps per person if you fill them with chicken. Which in doing so will leave you with extra lettuce but I was ok with that. I didn't use the full packet of dressing in the cabbage mix because of the added tsp of sugar so I think next time I'd omit the extra sugar and just use the dressing. Overall super easy and tasty

My younger son has a fear of lettuce. (I know.) I love that this recipe is easily adaptable to serve in a flour tortilla for family members with similar preferences. It is so easy and delicious. In fact, my picky eater would never have knowingly eaten the slaw, but he gobbled it up because the flavors and texture are so wonderful together. The rest of us absolutely love the lettuce crunch and freshness! Furthermore, it is easy to adjust the amount of hot sauce for individual tastes/tolerances. This meal is a complete winner in our house!

We chopped the lettuce instead of using the leaves as wraps. Then topped the chopped lettuce with the slaw and chopped chicken etc. Easier to eat it that way then as the wraps. Cause the wraps, get drippy and messy.

I love the lettuce wraps! There is usually enough for me to make a salad out of the left over lettuce, veg and meat. I use the sauces as a dressing and it's great the next day too.

It's extremely tasty. The spices and sauces were very complimentary to the dish. The lettuce was crisp and held the servings together.

Too much sauce, i should have added it in degrees. too rich & spicy. the lettuce wraps I had 3 years ago from Hello Fresh were much better.
