Cooking Steps

Cook Bacon
1

• Heat a large dry pan over medium-high heat. Add bacon*; cook, turning occasionally and adjusting heat if browning too quickly, until crispy, 6-10 minutes. • Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate. Once cool enough to handle, roughly chop. Discard all but a thin layer of bacon fat from pan.

Prep & Mix Vinaigrette
2

• While bacon cooks, wash and dry produce. • Trim and discard root end from lettuce; chop into bite- size pieces. Halve tomatoes. • In a large bowl, whisk together mustard, vinegar, dressing, and a drizzle of olive oil until smooth.

Toast Breadcrumbs
3

• Return pan with reserved bacon fat to medium-high heat (if pan seems dry, add a drizzle of oil). Add panko, a pinch of salt, and pepper; cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, 3-5 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl.

Finish & Serve
4

• Add lettuce, tomatoes, and half the cheddar to bowl with vinaigrette; toss to coat. Taste and season with salt and pepper if desired. • Divide salad between bowls; garnish with remaining cheddar, chopped bacon, and toasted panko. Serve. Bacon is fully cooked when internal temperature reaches 145°.

Review summary

Updated on Dec 2025
  • Flavor: Many enjoyed the BLT-inspired taste, though some found the blue cheese dressing too vinegary or weak in flavor.
  • Ease of prep: Quick and easy to put together, perfect for hot summer days when you want a light, refreshing meal 🥗.
  • Suggestions: Consider adding grilled chicken or salmon for extra protein; use less vinegar in the dressing for a milder taste.
  • Portions: Some felt there was too much lettuce compared to other ingredients; others wished for more bacon and tomatoes.
  • Texture: The bacon fat-toasted panko added a nice crunch, though a few preferred traditional croutons instead.

Great flavor! The toasted panko made this salad really taste like a BLT sandwich on toasted bread.

My salad-skeptical partner LOVED this, and so did I! Tastes EXACTLY like a BLT - magical!

The salad was very good, at first it didn't seem like it was going to be enough dressing for me so I left aside some of the lettuce just in case but to my surprise it was a perfect amount, so good job on the recipe hello fresh

Light, full of flavor without being heavy; great for hot, humid summer weather. My only comment: it could handle a bit more blue cheese.

This was very tasty and quick. The produce was fresh and I loved the bacon grease toasted panko. The dressing was very good as well. No negative notes.

Yummy and even better with the rosemary focaccia! The dressing was wonderful, could have used a tiny bit more, but it didn't affect the enjoyment of the salad!

I added avocado for extra protein and flavor because that's what I like - a BLTA! I used my almond flour bread crumbs beause I don't eat grains.

Quality of ingredients was excellent and I learned to prepare a meal from them instead of opening a package and heating the contents to eat a meal. This was my third meal and by now I had learned to read instruction completely before beginning preparation.

Not one of the best. Maybe it was just me or I didn't do something right but the crispy panko was not good and I just felt there needed to be more of the blue cheese dressing. With hardly any olive oil added, the dressing was like water. Didn't really stick to the lettuce and tomatoes very well.
