Our bright and savory citrus-garlic sauce, simmered with dark meat chicken, is the highlight of this delicious taco meal that’s on the table in a speedy 15 minutes! You’ll pile the chicken— sautéed with mildly spicy green peppers and shredded cabbage—into warm flour tortillas, then sprinkle with pepper jack, crispy fried onions, and a drizzle of smoky red pepper crema.

Produced in a facility that processes eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

Cooking Steps

Prep
1
  • Wash and dry produce.

  • Halve green pepper lengthwise and deseed; slice crosswise into thin strips.

Cook Chicken & Veggies
2
  • Open package of chicken* and drain off any excess liquid.

  • Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add green pepper and chicken to pan and season with salt and pepper. Cook; stirring occasionally, until pepper begins to soften, 3-4 minutes.

  • Add slaw mix and citrus garlic sauce; continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until slaw has wilted and chicken is cooked through, 1-2 minutes more.

Warm Tortillas
3
  • Wrap tortillas in damp paper towels and microwave until warm and pliable, about 30 seconds.

Finish & Serve
4
  • Divide tortillas between plates; fill with chicken mixture, pepper jack, smoky red pepper crema, and crispy fried onions. Serve.

Review summary

Updated on Dec 2025
  • Flavor: Many loved the citrus-garlic combo, though some found it unusual; adding sriracha or lime boosted flavor for some.
  • Ease of prep: Praised as quick, simple, and perfect for weeknights; several noted it was ready in just 10-15 minutes.
  • Suggestions: Consider leaving coleslaw raw for crunch; some preferred white meat chicken over dark meat.
  • Portions: A few wanted more filling per taco; others found it perfect, even enough for leftovers.
  • Spice level: Some found it pleasantly spicy, while others wanted more kick; adjust pepper amount to taste.

It was nice and tangy and really good! I was worried the chicken wouldn't be flavorful enough with only salt and pepper but adding the citrus garlic sauce made it very flavorful

Wow! These were so good and light. Plus only 3 steps! I used chicken breasts from the grocery store because I'm not very happy with the quality of HF chopped chicken. Love the recipe

Loved how fast and easy this was to prepare. Taste was better than most other taco options, and there was more to fill the tortillas with as well

Holy moly, this meal was delicious! Sometimes I wonder if a Hello Fresh meal will be truly good, only because I'm not used to the ingredients in my everyday life. However, I've learned to trust the process, and I'm never disappointed. This one was super easy to prepare and perfect for a Friday night. Absolutely yummy.

Our kid actually liked this, the flavor was new to us but really good surprisingly. I would recommend not putting the peppers in immediately with the chicken as the chicken takes longer to cook thoroughly and the peppers would have gotten overcooked by the time the chicken was ready. I waited 4 minutes to add the peppers.

Really tasty and easy summer dinner. The sauce and cheese was a bit spicy for our 11 year old, so a less spicy cheese would be nice to make it more kid friendly.

Subtle spiciness. Would like a little more of a citrus zing. Maybe like lime juice or pineapple

This was one of the quickest and easiest meals I've made, it came together so quick. The taste was great and I liked cooking the slaw in the sauce, I've never thought to do that before.

The pepper was very spicy which was unexpected. We left all but a few pieces out of the recipe and the tacos were very good! I would suggest using care when slicing the pepper I got capsaicin on my skin from cutting it up.
